Leuenberger Family. Members of this family reside in numerous communes in the canton of Bern, especially in the Emmen valley and the Upper Aargau. The family has produced two distinguished men--in the seventeenth century Niklaus Leuenberger, the leader of the Swiss peasants during the revolt of 1653, and in the nineteenth century the jurist and historian, Professor Dr. Johann Jakob Leuenberger. The family referred to here consists of the father, Hans Leuenberger, 50 years old, the mother Elisabeth 45 years old, the sons Hans 25 and Peter 8, and the daughters Elisabeth 20, Barbara 14, and Hanna 3 years old. (This is the most probable relationship between them.)
